Genioplasty chin augmentation Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center Miami

Genioplasty (chin augmentation) is a cosmetic procedure that sculpts your chin for enhanced definition and a sharper, more balanced facial profile. A recessed chin is common with age, and losing chin definition can make you look older than you are. Excess chin fat can also create the appearance of a double chin. With genioplasty, we can enhance definition as well as help you sharpen your jawline for a more balanced facial profile.

This procedure remains one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgeries, especially among those aspiring to improve their facial symmetry. Research shows tens of thousands undergo this procedure annually, with many reporting enhanced satisfaction with their appearance.

The Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center team has helped many patients transform their appearance with innovative face and body contouring procedures. Contact our Miami office or call (305) 901-2388 to learn more about how we can help you meet your goals.

About Genioplasty

The anatomy of the chin and surrounding areas makes up just a small yet critical segment of our overall facial features. The chin consists of the mandibular symphysis, which forms the endpoint of the jaw and plays an essential role in achieving structural balance with other facial elements—the forehead, nose, cheeks, and jawline. As you age, the facial muscles and fat can begin to atrophy, and gravity pulls on the skin. (1) If you feel like you have lost jawline definition, we can remove excess fat and sculpt your chin for a sharper facial profile with genioplasty. We can also alter the underlying bone structure to help you achieve a more defined, youthful look.

Types of Genioplasty

Genioplasty is a customizable procedure that we can combine with liposuction depending on your needs:

  • Implant genioplasty: We can place an implant in your chin to increase its volume and provide structural support. The procedure typically involves placing a biocompatible silicone implant in the chin area, directly on the bone, which results in a fuller appearance and improves facial contour.
  • Sliding (osseous) genioplasty: We can adjust the underlying bone structure of your chin. Sliding genioplasty is frequently sought by individuals who desire chin augmentation, enhancement of jawline contouring, or correction of facial imbalances due to underdeveloped or projecting chins. Osseous genioplasty can improve the definition of your entire jawline. (2)
  • Reduction genioplasty: This involves removing bone from the mandible or reshaping the chin to decrease protrusion or bulkiness. Incisions are typically made beneath the chin and within the natural folds to minimize visible scarring.

At Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center, we can discuss your aesthetic goals and examine your chin to determine the best procedure based on your needs.

Genioplasty Benefits

With a genioplasty, you can enjoy:

  • Facial balance: Genioplasty helps to create a more proportionate facial appearance.
  • Improved symmetry: If you have a chin abnormality or experienced an injury, we can improve the symmetry of your chin.
  • Enhanced confidence: We can improve your self-esteem by adjusting your facial proportions.
  • Reduced double chin: After removing the excess fat, you can enjoy a sharper facial profile and no longer need to worry about a double chin
  • Customizable procedure: We can tailor the procedure for your unique needs to create a result that suits your other features.
  • Long-lasting results: Since we can alter the underlying bone structure with the procedure and permanently remove excess fat with liposuction, the results of the procedure are long-lasting.

Candidates & Consultation

Suitable candidates for genioplasty are healthy, nonsmokers who would like to increase the definition of their chin and achieve a sharper facial profile. Whether you are struggling with genetic factors or the effects of aging, a genioplasty can help you reach your aesthetic goals. Usually, candidates would like to:

  • Define their jawline
  • Enjoy a younger-looking complexion
  • Eliminate fat
  • Reduce the appearance of a sunken or receding chin
  • Achieve long-lasting results with one procedure

At your personal consultation, we will provide customized treatment options based on your needs and preferences, including a detailed outline of the chosen implants and the expected outcomes. Please come prepared to discuss your lifestyle, medications, and medical history to help us develop a treatment plan that meets your needs. If you have had any previous cosmetic procedures, we will ask about them to create a surgical plan that adjusts your chin for your desired preferences. We can also discuss additional procedures such as liposuction or a facelift.

Preparation

To prepare for a genioplasty, you will need to:

  • Take time off work
  • Stop using medications and supplements that thin your blood
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol 24-48 hours before and after
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure
  • Prepare your meals
  • Organize your home and complete any errands you have

Genioplasty Procedure

Genioplasty chin augmentation Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center Miami

During your procedure, we will place you under anesthesia and make a thin incision inside your mouth along the line of your lower gums (intraoral incision). For a sliding (osseous) genioplasty, your surgeon will pass a very thin saw through the bone of your chin, reposition your bone, and place very thin screws in your chin to keep it in place while it heals. For an implant genioplasty, we will make an intraoral incision to place the implant in your chin. The type of implant you receive and the shape of the implant will depend on your unique bone structure. If you have pockets of excess fat on your chin or neck, we can also perform liposuction with tumescent fluid that causes your fat cells to swell for easier removal.

Recovery & Results

Post-operative expectations should involve swelling and bruising, which are common in the initial healing period. Discomfort is typically manageable with prescribed pain medication. Guidelines for recovery will likely include:

  • Keeping the head elevated during rest to reduce swelling.
  • Wearing a supportive garment or compression bandage as advised.
  • Abstaining from strenuous activities for at least two weeks.
  • Attending follow-up appointments to monitor healing progress.

After a few days, you can return to work, and after 4-6 weeks you can resume your normal exercise routine. After liposuction, you will need 1-2 weeks to heal, so your recovery time will depend on whether or not you have liposuction during your genioplasty. You can enjoy results immediately, and after 2-4 weeks, the swelling will subside. After 2-4 months, if you received an implant to increase the size of your chin, the implant will settle for enhanced definition.

Corresponding Procedures

Botox & Fillers

If you lose facial volume, we can restore it with dermal fillers – injectables designed to add volume beneath your skin for a natural look. We offer hyaluronic-acid-based injectables for a plumper, younger-looking complexion and restore lost volume from aging or weight changes. We also offer Botox, a neuromodulator that reduces the repetitive muscle movements that lead to fine lines and wrinkles. When the collagen in your skin declines, regular facial expressions can wear on the skin, leading to fine lines and wrinkles that increase your perceived age. We can use Botox to prevent and improve the appearance of wrinkles from repetitive facial movements, and the treatment is especially helpful for forehead lines, ‘eleve’ lines, and crow’s feet.

Blepharoplasty

If you have droopy or puffy skin that is creating a tired eye appearance, we can brighten your eyes with a blepharoplasty. During an upper blepharoplasty, we can make a discrete incision along the upper crease of your eyelid to reposition your skin. During a lower blepharoplasty, we can make a discrete incision inside your lower eyelid to reposition the fat pad to help you look more awake.

Facelift

If you would like to eliminate droopy jowls and improve the appearance of wrinkles from aging, we can tighten your skin with a facelift. We can make a thin incision along your hairline to remove excess tissue for a younger look. A facelift is long-lasting, and we can help you achieve your desired result with just one procedure.

FAQ

Is chin augmentation permanent?

Yes, genioplasty results are generally permanent, particularly with bony adjustments or solid implant placements. Proper aftercare extends longevity, yielding lasting satisfaction.

Does a genioplasty procedure cause scars?

A genioplasty does not cause visible scars. However, you will have a small scar inside your mouth (intraoral incision). We take care to make discrete incisions during your procedure.

Can I combine a genioplasty with additional facial contouring procedures?

Yes, you can combine a genioplasty with a facelift, brow lift, or a series of medspa treatments to help you look and feel your best.
