Thigh Lift
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Miami, FL
A thigh lift, also called a thighplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that redefines the contours of the thighs with the help of skin tightening and fat removal techniques. Individuals who have lost a massive amount of weight are the most suitable candidates for this procedure since they accumulate such a large amount of lax skin. For those who have fuller thighs, weight loss can cause dramatic fat atrophy and lead to unflattering skin folds and wrinkling. With a thigh lift, surgeons can reshape this area of the body to reflect their renewed health and aesthetics. They can also use specialized methods to target specific areas such as the inner, outer, or back of the thighs. With a deep understanding of this anatomy, they can form natural-looking, smoother, and more even results that align with your vision of your ideal body.
If you feel ready to take the next step in your body-contouring journey, we invite you to schedule a consultation at Miracle Mile Cosmetic Center in the heart of Miami. At our practice, our surgeons will take your desires and personal needs seriously, and our staff does everything possible to facilitate a smooth, easy surgical process. About Thigh Anatomy
Skin laxity can be a disheartening part of aging and/or weight loss, but it is correctable. There are several reasons why the thighs, in particular, are prone to losing skin elasticity. Over time, the skin’s collagen and elastin fibers degrade, and it loses its taut appearance. The process can begin as soon as your mid-30s, leaving the skin less able to recoil. (1) In other parts of the body, it may result in wrinkles, but the fat and skin of the inner thigh are less adherent to the fascia underneath, the supportive connective tissues that surround the muscles. As a result, loose tissue around the thigh can sag, causing annoying chafing, and even uncomfortable rashes and hygiene issues. Like other parts of the body with a lot of subcutaneous fat, you can lose fat volume, but without surgical intervention, affected individuals cannot do much to resolve moderate or severe skin laxity.
Cellulite
For women, cellulite is another added concern that further adds to feelings of self-consciousness. Contrary to what most people think, cellulite is not caused by being overweight or obese– it is a skin-deep issue. Just under the skin, strong bands of collagen pull on the skin from underneath, creating a dimpling effect on the surface. By restructuring how the skin drapes over the thighs, surgeons can also reduce or eliminate the look of cellulite with this lift procedure.
Benefits of the Thigh Lift
Miracle Mile surgeons can produce these desirable results with a thigh lift:
- Firmer, more youthful upper thighs
- No more burdensome chafing between the thighs
- Cellulite reduction
- Access to more clothing and flattering fashion
- Subtle scarring that can be well-concealed once fully healed
By following aftercare instructions carefully and maintaining a healthy lifestyle post-procedure, patients can reap the benefits of the thigh lift for more than 10 years. Even as the enhancements fade, the alterations can slow down the aging process. Regardless of your body composition, our surgeons can custom-tailor the thigh lift to form results you can be satisfied with for years to come. For example, they can add minimally invasive liposuction to the procedure to further sculpt fat before determining how much skin to tighten.
Ideal Candidates
At Miracle Mile, we have helped countless patients achieve the smooth, wrinkle-free thighs that they have always wanted, but the procedure is not right for everyone. Ideal patients should have realistic expectations, be in relatively good health, and be non-smokers. Our surgeons will consider those who are willing to commit to avoiding nicotine to promote a safer procedure. Those who have a blood clotting disorder, lymphedema, or venous medical issues should refrain from undergoing this procedure.
Personal Consultation
During your consultation at our Miami practice, we will thoroughly review your medical history and ask you about the specific cosmetic problems you have concerning your thighs. After taking a look at the tissues in the area, we will be able to determine the best surgical approach. We will make sure to include various details of the procedure to ensure you have a deep understanding of every aspect involved. This will include preparation instructions tailored to you, recovery and aftercare, and the final results you will get to enjoy long after healing.

Preparation
In preparation for your thigh lift, your surgeon will provide you with a list of medications to avoid in the days and weeks before and after your surgery. This will include blood-thinning medications that could raise the risk of experiencing a complication. They will also give you detailed instructions on how to keep your incisions clean and how to use the recovery supplies they will provide. If necessary, they may order blood tests to get an accurate overview of your health. If you are a smoker, you will need to completely avoid all tobacco and nicotine products for a few weeks beforehand. Finally, your surgeon will ask you to make plans with a friend or family member to help you out during the first few days of healing at home. This will include transportation from the surgical center since it will be unsafe to drive after the procedure.
Thigh Lift Procedure Options
Miracle Mile surgeons use the most updated concepts in thigh lift techniques to ensure a safe and comfortable process before and after. For this particular procedure, your anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia. Unless you choose to undergo the procedure at the same time as another one, such as a tummy tuck, you will be able to go home at the end of the procedure after a brief monitoring period. Your surgeon will perform one of the following methods according to the location of the lax tissue.
Posterior Thigh Lift
A posterior thigh lift not only smooths out the deep folds of the back of the thighs, but it can serve to highlight the curves of your buttocks and the backside of your hips. For this approach, your surgeon will need to make a horizontal incision within the lower crease of each buttock, lift the lax thigh skin, and remove fat that creates unwanted, uneven bulges. After redraping the skin into a more taut positioning, your surgeon will place a surgical drain at the incision site for each thigh, encouraging any fluid buildup to exit and effectively reducing swelling. Within 2 to 3 days, you will return to Miracle Mile so that they can remove the drains. The sutures to close each incision line will slowly dissolve. (2)
Medial Thigh Lift
A medial thigh lift involves contouring the innermost portion of the thigh; for this method, your surgeon will make an incision along each crease of the groin. If necessary, they may add a vertical incision from the groin to the thigh, ensuring that it stays within the innermost part. They will remove lax skin and fat to specifically resolve chaffing from rubbing thighs and folded bulges in this area. This is the perfect technique if you are looking to attain the thigh-gap look.
Bilateral Thigh Lift
For a bilateral thigh lift, also known as an outer thigh lift, your surgeon will make an incision starting from the groin and extend it to the outer hip area. This technique is designed to promote a smooth, contoured transition from the hip to the outer thigh area, accentuating more youthful, voluptuous hips with less sagging skin. Patients can conceal the incisions under a bathing suit, making it most suitable for those who are concerned about visible scarring.
Liposuction
Your surgeon can perform liposuction to remove fat from the area before performing any skin excision techniques. For liposuction, they will only need to make an incision around the size of a centimeter and infiltrate tumescent fluid to prepare the targeted fat. After properly numbing the fat layer and allowing the fat cells to engorge with the fluid, they can remove the fat with suction pressure using a cannula instrument that fits into the tiny incision of each thigh. Adding liposuction to thighplasty can help surgeons remove more skin and reduce blood loss. (3)
Recovery and Results
You will notice improvements right after the procedure, although there will be some swelling and bruising. These effects will slowly go away with time. Your surgeon will give you a compression garment to wear for about a month, reducing swelling and protecting the incisions. You should be able to go back to less strenuous activities in just a few days, but you should postpone your gym routine for at least 4 to 6 weeks. It will likely take an extra few weeks before you will be able to enjoy your rejuvenated body without any residual swelling. Miracle Mile will schedule follow-up appointments to keep an eye on your progress and rate of healing.
